Galilee was originally a fishing village, located in Narragansett, Rhode Island. Narragansett's population was calculated at 15,868 during the census of 2010, however, this population more than doubles during the summer months. The village of Galilee received its name in 1902 by a fisherman (Thomas Mann) who thought it resembled the fishing village of Galilee in biblical times. It is the currently home to the largest fishing fleet in Rhode Island and is the site of the Block Island Ferry. Tourists depart from Galilee for an hour boat ride to Block Island which resides 13 miles off the coast of Galilee. Today Galilee is home to many private beaches, restaurants, and memorial sites.
